I’m going to be curating a weekly ‘Top 8’, ahead of the weekend, looking mostly at online shops. This week I’ve looked at the New Arrivals of some of my favourite online shops. All products are available currently on the UK sites and are priced in GBP. It’s been a real mixed bag weather-wise, so this week’s Edit reflects that!
This week’s online shopping Edit:
I first saw this jumper around 2 years ago. It was being adorned by the likes of Kate and Alexa; and like my favourite fashion-people I’d also lusted after the monochrome version of the now infamous 1970 slogan jumper. Much to my family and mates’
disgust confusion dislike, we’re big fans of the 1970’s. Fans of the fashion, music and most predominantly, the design and (Mid Century) interiors of the era. So this jumper struck more than *just* sartorial chord with me. But then I saw a Telegraph article on (aptly named) jewellery designer Sheherazade Goldsmith, and she was wearing a red version of my favourite woollen piece. Be still my beating heart…
So from then, I lusted for the red colourway. The super-soft Merino Wool. The cut and design. The design itself takes its signature motif from a book clipping that Freud used to wear pinned onto a plain jumper.
I do have splashes of colour in my mostly-black wardrobe and I would tend to go for red or green, unless its a vintage or leopard print (or red or green variations of leopard print!) of course.
So the red 1970 Jumper by the lovely Bella Freud is firmly on my NEED list. More or less at the top.
If you so desire, you can own this seemingly cult classic by clicking the link here: Bella Freud at Selfridges.com
Which colourway would you go for?
About Bella Freud:
Freud was born in London, England. She is the daughter of Bernardine Coverley and artist Lucian Freud and great granddaughter of the inventor of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud.
She is renowned for her signature jumpers Je t’aime Jane, Ginsberg is God and 1970. Fans of Bella Freud include Alexa Chung, Laura Bailey, Kate Moss and Alison Mosshart.
Bella launched her eponymous label in 1990. Her first collection featured sexy knitted dresses in bookish colours, mini tailored suits and a small selection of shoes and bags. Bella went on to win Most Innovative Designer at the London Fashion Awards in 1991 and produced a Super 8 short film ‘Day at the Races’ as an alternative to a fashion show. Bella’s second film ‘More Clothes’ directed by Kate Garner was shot on 35mm film and showcased the SS 1992 collection.
Seasonal catwalk shows followed, then in 1999 Bella began her fashion film collaboration with John Malkovich, co writing and producing three short films: Strap Hanging, Lady Behave, and Hideous Man. In 2001 Bella also collaborated with rock icon Anita Pallenberg on Memo, a limited edition magazine featuring the AW2000 collection, inspired by the film Performance.
From March 2000 to 2003 Bella consulted for British heritage brand Jaeger, rejuvenating their image and bringing British dressing to a younger audience.
Bella’s love of film continued and in 2013 she art directed the short film Je T’Ecoute, produced by Laura Bailey starring Lara Stone, which screened at White Cube Bermondsey. Bella’s directorial debut ‘Girl Boils Egg’ is a two minute film featuring Punk, commissioned by Nick Knight for SHOWstudio.com.
2013 also saw the development of the RTW collections and expansion into the beauty market. The Bella Freud Eau de Parfum collection was launched in 2014 and has gained a cult following.

Top: Dinosaur Tee, Next, £6. Click here to purchase online.
Bottoms: Navy Shorts (pack of 2), Next, £11. Click here to purchase online.
Head: Hat (pack of 2 hats), Next, £GIFT.
Today Mr Eli is 9 months old! He has officially now been out as long as he was in! Incredible. What a 9 months it has been. Completely full of up’s and down’s – and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Mr Eli is just an amazing human being – such a character. Our beautiful darling boy xxx
To celebrate it being sunny, a bank holiday AND Eli’s 9 month birthday, we headed to Southend for the day. Got to make the most of that sunshine! Eli
(with a little encouragement from us….) is a huge dinosaur fan. I’d been looking for some ‘cool’ dinosaur items of clothing for a while. But not really seen anything aside from realistic dinosaur graphics (which just look plain scary!) or overly-cartoonish style dinosaur graphics. But when I saw this tee from Next I practically POUNCED on it! It’s a great looking tee – cool dino print on front and back with a little chest pocket. Lovely stuff. Also have to mention these shorts! Because Eli will probably be wearing them a lot over the summer! They’re a 2-pack from Next, £11. Come in Navy and a Cargo-Brown colourway. They’re extremely hardwaring, wash great, wicked quality and made using a heavy cotton so they can be dressed up (with a shirt) or dressed down, like today.
Next have some really good clothing this season for your little man. I tend to go for mini-Daddy style clothing, rather than cute kids clothing. So if you’re after the same kind of thing, give Next a whirl. So so good. Great prices too!

‘Ee’ Alphabet t-shirt, American Apparel, £10.
Brown Harem Pants, Zara Kids – Part of set with cardigan, £GIFT.
Eli wore his brand new American Apparel Alphabet tee to the park last week; teamed with wicked knitted Harem Pants from Zara.
It was the first time it had been warm enough for short sleeves! And it was also the first time Eli played on swings and slides! He absolutely loved it – as you can tell.
I’d always been meaning to buy myself a ‘Cc’ tee from American Apparel… think I’m probably a little bit too old for it now. I’ll stick to my
Carrie Claire necklace I think. But Eli looks wicked in his ‘Ee’ tee; of course all of the alphabet tee’s are unisex too. LOVE it.

Today Eli is wearing an all-in-one Baby Ralph Lauren casual outfit.
I love how cosy this babygrow is. It’s made of a lovely terry-toweling material, that gives it a smart-casual feel. Perfect for our outing to the estate agents this afternoon. The exact same details go into the Ralph Lauren baby clothes as you’d expect for the adult clothing. Ralph Lauren signature Pony embroided logo to the left chest and embossed pearlised button placket to the front. This baby grow also has a hood to the back, as well as popper fastening on the legs.
You can find Baby and Kids Ralph Lauren for your boys and girls at AlexandAlexa.com!
A little while ago I wrote this post >> Wonderful package from The Essential One. I’d received a lovely package from the lovely people at The Essential One; I was touched by the lovely thoughtful note and blown away by the incredible packaging. They really do go the extra mile with making sure their customers feel loved! And that scent…ahhh, the amazing packaging is even filled with their signature ‘just washed baby’ scent. SO GOOD. But more to the point, I was really impressed with the look and feel of the clothing.
After a quick first-time wash I added the bag of three babygro’s to my hospital bag ready for Baby Eli’s arrival. I always wash any new clothes before Eli wears them – it was great to see that the Essential One pieces washed so nicely. They came out of the wash so soft and snuggly! Unfortunately however, Eli was a little on the small side (much to EVERYONE’s surprise!) so he didn’t fit into the babygro’s as a newborn 🙁
This week however, Eli now weighs 9lb 11oz and fits perfectly into them and I just had to share!
I’m a huge fan of independent businesses and would definitely encourage you to support The Essential One! Their clothing is just so scrummy and perfect for your baby or for gifts for your loved ones! Take a look TheEssentialOne.com
We’ve been invited to a wedding on Saturday 21st July… my due date is just 6 days after said-wedding. Whether we even make it to the 21st July without Baby Boy arriving is actually a bet in itself!
But this set aside, I thought I’d have a look at some Maternity ‘Occasion’ dresses anyway. I headed to all the usual Maternity stockists online and came to ASOS.com last, but by no means least. I was quite honestly shocked at the full range of smart to casual that they had on there! Wish I’d visited earlier in my pregnancy now!
Anyway, here are my favourites… These dresses all scream elegance, but also look really very comfortable. I’m sure you could also get away with most of them post-pregnancy too!
Pack of 3 essential Baby Grows from The Essential One. £18.
This week we received a wonderfully packaged parcel from the lovely people over at The Essential One. We’ve been looking in depth at what we need to include in our Hospital Bag (of which I should have had sorted this week, whoops!). One of the essentials that top’s the list to include is of course New Born sleepsuits/baby grows, so we were over the moon when this set of 3 arrived! I cried when I open the outer packaging, how nice is the little note that came with it?! I was touched!
I firstly just want to point out the detail that The Essential One go to with their packaging… everything is beautifully wrapped in their signature tissue and stamped firmly closed with logo stickers. The one other thing you cannot mistake when opening their parcels is the incredible ‘just washed baby’ scent! Absolutely amazing! Our living room filled with this intoxicating just-out-of-the-bath scent, which has made us even more inpatient for our little babbit to arrive! We can’t wait to recreate the smell for real.
So what was in the package then? A set of 3 incredibly soft and cute Baby Grows, that come in a self fabric drawstring bag! The extra bag is going to be so useful. I intend on using it with my changing bag, for additional clothing that we might need on a daily basis! Can’t get over how luxuriously soft the cotton is on these sleepsuits – absolutely perfect for our new born son’s skin. There’s also poppers down each leg for ease of nappy changing.
You can purchase every Essential you’ll need for your New Born (and upwards) from TheEssentialOne.com Once you’ve had a look, you’ll be hooked! Of course, all of the essentials will also make really nice gifts for expecting parents too!
Actually cannot wait to use these sleepsuits – they’re the first things we’ve got for our Hospital Bag (must must must sort this week!) so we’re really excited:D Not long now!
I could not resist this tiny gingham shirt from Baby Gap the other day… OH has a very similar one from Ben Sherman. Albeit, OH, is more into his plain oxford shirts these days – but we won’t tell anyone that ;o
OH and I both wear Converse too – so will definitely be getting our little one into them as soon as he needs them! 😀 He’ll be wearing his with some titchy shirts and dungaree’s however; old school.
Did you dress your little ones in similar clothing to you or your partner?
